And if you've ever seen the bottom of a ship, you'll know it's covered in rough, jagged barnacles no matter what you do...

Also, keep in mind the ocean is full of salt water. Basically, it's the worst form of torture a vanaa could imagine... they hate that stuff! Not that it'd stop Old Salt from trying it out with entire spaceships, as possible. He is not nice.
